Visit a Farmers Market Near You, It’s a Good Deal for you AND Our Local Farmers

Our region ranks fifth in the nation in its number of individual farms. Fifth in the nation… that’s a huge accomplishment in and of itself. Having the variety of fresh produce, meats, and cheeses available to the people of our region that we have, means great eating, and terrific nutritional value for all of us.

Louisville area Farmers MarketsFarms and farmers are a great regional resource. Not only do they provide enjoyable scenery for a Sunday afternoon drive, but they also supply a readily available way to enjoy fresh, organic food. We’re lucky to live in a region where working farms are in such abundance, and as consumers, finding ways to support the farms, and the hard working farmers who work them, is the least we can do to show our appreciation.

One of the ways you can support our local farmers, while helping yourself at the same time, is to visit one of the many regional farmers markets. Most of these markets have officially opened for the summer and fall, meaning they’re now available to provide fresh, local, organic produce, vegetables, meats, and cheeses from now through October. The list below is not all-encompassing, but hopefully you’ll find a market close to your home. Learn the meaning of “farm fresh” for yourself, and visit one of these venues:

Additionally, there’s a local lady on a mission to connect local farmers to area distribution outlets, such as schools, hospitals, restaurants and more. Her tireless efforts are helping our farmers generate the revenue they need to keep their farms in business, while giving local diners a chance to eat healthy, farm fresh meals. Her name is Sarah Fritschner, she’s Louisville’s Farm to Table coordinator, and she’s working hard to make our lives, and our diets, a little bit better! More information about the Farm to Table initiative will be forthcoming, so be sure to stay tuned. In the meantime, we want you to know where to find a farmers market close to home.
