Southern Indiana Restaurant wins Super 46 Sandwiches Contest

Super 46 Sandwiches ContestWhen we last posted, we shared some great culinary news coming out of Louisville. But like most great things in our region, good food knows no boundaries. In fact, across the river in Jasper, Indiana, a local restaurant recently won high praise (and a fun Super Bowl contest) for one of its delicious dishes.

The bratwurst sandwich from the one-of-a-kind, authentic German restaurant, the Schnitzelbank, was recently awarded first place in the Super 46 Sandwiches contest.

Indiana Insider—in honor of Super Bowl 46—put a contest together spotlighting outstanding sandwiches around the state. They chose the initial list of 46, then readers voted for their favorite. After three rounds of votes, the winner was finally named…and just happens to be right here in our region.

The Schnitzelbank Restaurant was opened in Jasper, Indiana in 1961 by Larry and Betty Hanselman and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary! Although the menu carries American cuisine, it also reflects authentic German dishes such as Rolladen, Sauerbraten, Sauerkraut, Red Cabbage, and more.

The Hanselmans’ six children have carried on the German tradition since their parents’ semi-retirement. Check out the website for a complete menu list, an online store, and more information about the Schnitzelbank’s catering services.

The Association of Cities and Towns has also ranked the Schnitzelbank in the Top 10 of Independent Restaurants in Indiana.

Congratulations again to the Schnitzelbank and all the other outstanding restaurants that made the list.
