Remembering 9/11 in Fort Knox, Kentucky

9/11 Memorial Fort Knox Kentucky September 11 2011Fort Knox, Kentucky will host a 10th anniversary 9/11 tribute and concert at Eastman Amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. September 11 in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks and the subsequent global war on terror.

The event will begin with a keynote address by Kentucky 2nd District U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie. Immediately following, Fort Knox’s 113th Army Band will perform a patriotic concert. The event will close with a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.

The venue is an open-air amphitheater, so patrons are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Fort Knox will also host an 8:30 a.m. ceremony at Fire Station No. 1, featuring the unveiling of the post’s 9/11 monument – a metal piece from the World Trade Center set in granite. Included in the ceremony will be a tolling of the fire station’s bell and a ceremonial wreath laying to pay respect to the first responders, service members and civilians who lost their lives in terrorist attacks.
