Helping One Another to Realize Our One Dream

If we’re going to achieve our dream to become the Idea Capital of the World, where every one of our nearly 1.6 million great individuals has what they need to realize their dream, then making our region an even better place by helping one another is an idea to which we can all aspire.

For instance, The Bridge Community in Elizabethtown, KY is hosting a Clothing Give Away from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday. The church has served more than 1,000 people over the last year, and with times being a little bit tough right now, this kind of help can make a real difference. They’re still short a few items, and could use some volunteers to help with the Give Away. Visit bridgecommunity.org/closet to find out more.

Another great example of people helping people can be found in Madison, IN where The Clearinghouse Working Group is developing a one-stop service center to co-locate charity, non-profit and faith-based services to more efficiently assist southeastern Indiana families in need. This is a community wide partnership, and to be most effective they need volunteers and donations. Contact Molly Dodge, molly@rivervalleyresources.com, or phone 812-265-2652, to learn how you can help.

There is no shortage of non-profit agencies, churches and other local organizations that need your help. So whether you want to help paint something that could use a fresh coat, serve meals to hungry kids, help the elderly or sort clothing for families who have a need, you’ll be playing a vital role in helping to make our region an even better place.

And if you’re looking for a great way to start helping today, then roll up your sleeves and volunteer for the first Louisville “Give A Day” week of community service projects. Many volunteer events are still available, but act quickly, because with events running from October 17-23, time is running short for signing on.

The next “Give A Day” week of service won’t be held until April 15-22, so please take this opportunity to be part of something vitally important. Act now. Individuals, companies and groups can volunteer online for the Oct. 17-23 “Give A Day” service projects by going to www.mygiveaday.com.

These are just a few examples of the great things that are going on in our region. We’re all in this together, and by helping each other, we can make a difference. If you know of other places, organizations or individuals in our region who are dedicated to helping, please let us know. Spreading the word on great ideas is how KIX.com helps make a difference.

Be part of the conversation.
